Kason's Blessing Day

Today was a very special day for Kason.  Today was Kason’s blessing day.  We had a great day celebrated by lots of friends and family.  Kolt and I can’t stop talking about all the love and support we had today.  We have a lot of very special people in our lives.  Thank you to each of you for your love and support today.  We had a good morning visiting with Chris Ransom; Kolt is always talking about the adventures he had with Chris on their missions.  He loves every chance he has to talk with him.  Grandma Lindley and I gave Kason a bath in the morning.  Kason slept the entire day except during the blessing.  He fussed and fussed at the end, but Kolt did a great job to finish the blessing despite both Grandpas trying to calm Kason.  Kolt and I bore our testimonies; I have such a hard time talking about things that mean so much to me, but I love my family very much and am so glad I can be sealed with them.  Eternity with Kolt and Kason sounds great to me.  Kolt bore a special testimony about learning a little more about the love Heavenly Father has for each of us as he takes care of Kason.  We had an awesome luncheon at our house after Sacrament Meeting.  We had Pulled Pork Sandwiches, lots of yummy salads, and Moon Cake.  It could not have happened without all our great family and friends. It was a great day.  We are so grateful for Kason.

This week we took a little vacation to Bear Lake.  We stayed at Uncle Corey & Aunt Janis’ cabin.  It is a beautiful cabin with an amazing view of the lake.  We have made it a tradition in the Lindley family to go up there every summer and just enjoy the peace of the cabin.  We watched movies, swam in the pool, ate a lot, and just enjoyed a break from everyday life.  Kolt had to come home Tuesday night to work his volunteer shift at the hospital on Wednesday morning, but came back Wednesday afternoon with Kevin and Ashley.  We had a great Lindley Family Reunion.  Charlie found that he loves holding baby Kason.  Kason was the star of the show Monday evening when he smiled at Kolt.  He is starting to show a little more personality. 

 

 

 

 

 

On Thursday morning we left for Frederico’s in Logan where we met Corey, Janis, and their kids.  On the way to Logan, we stopped by Ricks Springs, which is named after an ancestor from the Dalling family.  We were excited that Chris Ransom could get off work also and meet us there also.  We had a chance to visit with Grandma Lindley in her new home.  She seems to really like it, and it is very pretty. It was great to visit with my cousin Robyn and her boy Ethan.  It is fun to see what life will be like in a few months.  Thursday evening Kolt went out to the last Working Ranch 4H Meeting.  He got pretty sick and had to leave early

 

Friday morning I went into work to get things ready to print checks on Monday.  It’s amazing what 2 weeks’ worth of bills can do to your desk! Kolt still wasn’t feeling well, so we left him in bed, and I asked Grandpa Lindley to babysit.  Friday evening was Grandma and Grandpa Staker’s 50^th Wedding Anniversary Reception.  We took a big family picture and then had dinner after.  Kason was a great sport for pictures and dinner, but Kolt was feeling awful, so we hustled home, so he could rest before the reception.  At the reception, we sang “Love is Spoken Here” for Grandpa and Grandma.  Kason was pretty fussy, so we spent most of the program out in the hall and roaming in the kitchen for a head start on the refreshments! We left early again, so Kolt could rest and luckily Kason slept for 5 hours that night.

  

 

 

Saturday morning I woke up with the same flu.  I spent most of the day in bed taking care of Kason when I could and asking my mom for help when I needed to sleep.  Kolt spent the day cleaning and getting ready for the blessing.  Kason, Kolt and my parents celebrated a good day’s work at Chuck-A-Rama before Kolt headed off for the Working Ranch 4H night at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.  Rope and Brand finished great and are headed to State.  Kolt hit a wedding reception for one of his friends, David Siegel, from school.  Elder Ransom got here in time to go back to 4H.  Kolt didn’t tell him to bring his “cowboy clothes”, so he felt a little out of place! On the way home, Kolt ran out of gas! Luckily, he was next to his boss’ house and got enough gas to make it home.  We have given him a pretty hard time for not looking at the gas light.  We had raspberries and ice cream for dessert and then headed to bed.

We are sure grateful for the gospel and the special day we had this week.

Miss Cody Lee Joins Our Family

Kason has had another good week, hitting his 3 week birthday on Wednesday. We did an unofficial weigh in on the bathroom scale with his mom. It said 12 pounds even! Give or take a pound, he is obviously growing quite a bit. He has started to be a little fussy which we attribute to some tummy aches. I experimented by cutting back on my dairy intake, and he seems to beach happier. He is still very regular eating and is starting to eat more than I can feed. Friday night he nursed, drank 2 bottles that I had pumped earlier, nursed again, and then slept 7 hours. He hadn't slept more than 4 hours before that. We were pretty excited about that and are working on getting him fed well, so he can sleep a little longer at nights. He is still actively recognizing voices, anxious to try to hold his head up on his own, and recently started enjoying facing out to look around. We sure love watching him progress.

We had an exciting week starting with Kolt finding a horse he fell on love with. Miss Cody Lee is a 6 year old mare who has been broke very well. She comes in the pasture when you call her name and walks, trots, and lopes at a clicks and kisses. Her previous owner raised her from 6 months old. She is a pretty bay mare. Kolt went to look at her with my mom after a horse ride. He surprised me when he called on the way home, asking if it was okay that he "bought another horse." He is excited to start roping on her and hopefully make her into a good 4H horse for another kid in just a month. He has been spending lots of time with her as well as Chester, the other horse he's riding for a friend.

Monday we took Kason in to get some blood work. I also had an appointment because I was afraid I wasn't healing right. They assured me that I was doing okay and probably taking longer to heal because Kason was such a big baby. That evening we took Kason to his first Idaho Falls Chuckars game. Needless to say, I don't remember much about the game other than a home run in the 7th inning that was in the direction of our car. Kason didn't seem to enjoy the game either as he was hungry as soon as we got there and slept through the rest of the game. Nathan thinks Kolt is his new best friend. When grandpa asked him if he wanted to talk to Charlie, the Chuckar, he replied, "Sure. Me and Kolt go see him. That'd be fine." Kolt called Charlie over, so they could get a picture with Charlie. Nathan's courage quickly faded, and he was pretty scared.

Tuesday morning Kolt went fishing with Brady and Landon. They seemed to have a good time. Kolt then met my mom with horses to ride up in the sand dunes. Wednesday Kolt rode Cody for the first time around Iona with my mom.  When he was cinching up her saddle, she worked herself up enough to cut her chin open on the horse trailer. It was quite deep, so Kolt ended up taking her to the vet Thursday morning. He put the anesthetic to good use and swung the rope around her head when she was still a little under.

Thursday my mom and I went up to Hamer to run the Annual Panther Skills Clinic. Due to Kasons birth, we only hosted one day of 2 hours of both volleyball and basketball. I got up enough energy to do the volleyball session and my mom did most of the basketball. We sure enjoy watching those 19 girls improve every year. Trish was a lifesaver to watch Kason. Her friend had some experience with thrush who though Kason was showing some early signs of it, so we got on some medication, and we both seem to be doing much better.

Friday Kolt and I did a little grocery shopping for the first time with Kason. I have found out that shopping with my own baby isn't as fun as shopping with a baby I was babysitting. I used to really enjoy that, but I find I worry about too many things with my own baby, like if he's going to get sick from Simeon or if he's going to be hungry before we finish. It turned into a quick shopping trip really fast. I have actually found that a lot of the things I "thought" being a parent would be like are not very close at all. The things I thought I would enjoy are actually quite tough, and I have learned to really enjoy the good moments. I now have a new respect for all mothers, and I am learning how to cope with trials on little sleep which is quite difficult. Kolt has been the "steady Eddie" in all of this and is helping me learn to love what motherhood is really like.

Saturday I worked hard to do laundry before the Dalling family reunion. I also enjoy reunions and love visiting with my cousins. We had an awesome dinner that my mom was in charge of this year. Kason was a little fussy for his aunts and uncles, but settled down when grandpa held him. Kolt then played basketball in the pool at green canyon with uncle Jared, Bryant, and cousins Derrick, Scott, and jay. I had a good visit with Mandy and Trish.

Sunday we had a successful sacrament meeting with Kason. Kolt taught a really good lesson about our covenant to always remember the savior. Unfortunately, our class had a hard time being reverent, so we are trying to figure out how to motivate the kids to be reverent. My mom taught a great lesson in relief society about peace at home. Kason was hungry about five minutes in, so missed most of it. She is a great teacher.

2 Weeks Old

Kason was 2 weeks old on Wednesday.  At his 2-week checkup, Kason weighed 9 lbs. 15 oz. measuring at 23 inches long.  He is in the 87^th percentile for weight and 99.9^th percentile for height.  His head measures in the 81^st percentile.  He is starting to grow quite the personality.  He started to have some tummy aches this week; he seems to be feeling better, but has now learned how to scream at the drop of a hat.  I am hoping he learns quickly that he doesn’t have to scream anymore to be attended to! He has become very sensitive to being too hot and having a dirty diaper on too long; he is very good at letting us know when he is not happy.  He is quite good at following voices and looking at faces.  He is calmed best by his dad’s voice.  He has started to really not like his pacifier, but really likes his vibrating bouncer.  He sleeps great during the day, but is not too sure at night.  He is very on schedule for eating and doesn’t go more than 4 hours without eating at any time of the night or day.  He is a great eater, but spits up right away if I don’t let Grandma Lindley burp him! He has a space bubble around his face just like his mommy.  He doesn’t care for lots of kisses, but Grandma Piquet found out that he doesn’t get upset when he is kissed on the back of his head! He is quite the cuddle bug and loves to be snuggled on your chest.  We are really excited to bless him in 2 weeks on August 4th.  We sure love him and enjoy spoiling him.

This week was the week of appointments.  I went to the eye doctor Monday morning, and Kolt and I both went to the dentist on Tuesday.  Thanks to Grandma Lindley for babysitting Kason.  My vision had changed 2 points and my teeth definitely needed cleaning after this pregnancy.  In the last 2 weeks, I have had a baby, got new contacts, got my teeth cleaned, and got my hair done.  I feel like a new woman! Monday evening we took family pictures and got Kolt’s newborn pictures done by SJ Photography.  Savanah is a long-time friend from high school, and we just love her.  We are so excited to see Kason’s pictures. 

Kolt has had a new week without work.  He has spent a lot of time riding horses at his brothers’ 4-H group and with my mom.  They took Kate, Chex, and Chester up to the sand dunes on Thursday.  It sounded like they really wore them out.  Kolt put Chex up for sale this week.  He answered a lot of phone calls and texts as well as showed the horse a couple of times.  He made a couple of really cool videos that I like to brag about, so I’m putting them on the blog.  He sure does a good job with horses and shows quite a bit of passion when working with them.  He took a lot of pride in the progress Chex made.  Chex sold this week to a little 11-year old girl who wants to use Chex in 4-H.  She is interested in joining the 4-H group that his brothers are in which means we would see Chex quite a bit.  Knowing that he will be close makes it easier to see him go.  Selling Chex was definitely the highlight of the week.

Kolt has also started working for his dad out at his parents’ house.  Kolt really enjoys working on projects and improving things.  We are sure grateful for the chance he has to still work with his new schedule.  The 2^nd highlight of the week was Kolt getting hired on at Mountain View Hospital to volunteer.  He is stationed in the surgical waiting room.  He works as a liaison between the doctors and the patients.  It is pretty low key, but he is happy to get the chance to fulfill the patient exposure requirement for medical school.  He has two 4-hour shifts on Wednesday morning and Friday afternoon.   He really enjoys working there so far.

On Wednesday morning, Kolt, Kason, and I went fishing with Shauna, Landon, Paisley, Rope & Brand up on Landon’s dad’s land.  We left at 5 to get there by 6.  It was a pretty slow morning until Kolt caught a 20” Cutthroat.  He was pretty excited and thinks he is quite the fisherman now.  Thursday afternoon we went up to Darby camp to visit Grandma and Grandpa Staker and Grandma Piquet at the Ucon Stake Girls Camp.  Grandma Piquet was sure glad to see Kason. She was missing her grandbaby.  Kason had quite the day.  In the first hour, he dirtied the last 3 diapers, used the last of the wipes, and peed all over his mom.  He was a great traveler though and slept both ways!  He even was good enough to let Kolt and I get some square ice cream on the way home.

Thursday and Friday I went into work for a few hours to print checks.  I sure enjoy my job, but I definitely missed Kason Friday.  I didn’t think he would be happy at work because he had had tummy aches all night and was pretty fussy.  He liked being with Grandma and Grandpa Lindley for the day though and started feeling much better.  Saturday Kolt went out to help shoe horses at his parents’ house, and Kason and I worked on the laundry.  Thanks to my mom’s help, I even made taco soup for dinner, so it was ready when my parents got home from Utah.  Saturday evening I cut Kolt’s hair; it won’t be too long until Kason needs a haircut too!

On Sunday I taught about the Sacrament.  As part of the lesson, the kids each picked out their favorite Sacrament hymn and shared why they liked it and bore their testimony.  Kolt and I are trying to help the kids learn how to share their testimony and be missionaries.  They have been learning a lot.  We had a visit from Jocelyn & Mark Hobbs and the Hill’s.  We sure have great friends and love it when we can visit with them. Sunday evening we went out to dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Piquet’s because Uncle Rick was in town from California.  Kason was spoiled rotten; we had lots of people willing to help hold him.  He loves being held.
