Memorial Day--Junior Rodeo
Kason is 23 months old today! He is full of life and
opinions! He loves to talk and talk and always has something to say. His
phrases of the week are: "bulls fall off" (along with cows and horses
anytime he says one of those animals because that's how he's seen it done at
the rodeos), "it's okay Kolay", "Clyde hay" or "Wally
grass". In fact, one morning this week, he walked straight into our room
and said his longest phrase ever, "Wally! Hay! No, no! Wally grass!" Just
the night before, his dad had told him not to feed Wally hay because he was
eating grass in the pasture and obviously he had been thinking about it for a
while. He also had a cute night this week at our scripture study. After we
read, we said a family prayer. Kason grabbed his frog stuffed animals and said
"Fold arms!" and proceeded to fold the arms of he frog through the
whole prayer, then he tucked him into bed next to him. It was awfully cute, but
then he had had enough and he threw his frog to the end of the bed so he could
sleep alone. Kason has made a huge jump in his sleep routine. He sleeps
completely on his own. He lies in his bed boy bed while Kolt and I sit in the
rocking chair across the room and usually we stay there until he falls asleep.
He is pretty consistent on a 1-3 pm nap and a 9 pm-7 am bedtime. He is really
good at routines and even letting him stay up until 11:30 with Tyler on Friday
has really affected his schedule and mood and is barely getting back to normal
today. I forgot to mention that 2 weeks ago he started developing a sore around
his mouth that got big and blistered. We took him to the doctor and found out
that it was impetigo, which is a contagious infection that is associated with
dry skin. He got a cream to put on his and within a week it was cleared up. He
got better about learning not to touch it and keeping the cream on. We are glad
it's gone! Kason also is a great jumper and can jump off both feet even a few
times in a row.
Kolay is almost 6 months old and I don't know how that happened! She is a growing girl! She learned to roll into her belly and hasn't figured out how to roll back yet. She also scoots around and even moved over to a toy she wanted. For the first time this week, Kolay rolled over and grabbed one of kasons truck. That really threw Kason for a loop! Those are his toys! It will be fun working on sharing with your sister. Kolay is close to sitting up on her own, but not quite there yet. She can only do a few seconds before she starts staring at her toes. She is always happy and loves to smile when talked to. I often get asked if she is "always this happy" and yes, she always is! She rarely fusses when she is hungry or tired and other than that, she is a smiley, talkative baby. She learned to scream this week and I'm still not sure she knows what she's doing. She is loved by her big brother. He loves to run and give her kisses on the head when she's in the room. He also knows that a binky is only for when she's sad so if she cries he will say "Cry! Binky!" And come put it in. She is a great sport about all of that! She almost has a tooth popped. I can see them but they are still under the gum line. She always wants a toy to chew on. She has the cutest little laugh that sounds like Elmer Fudd. It's impossible not to laugh back at that. Kolay eats great! She eats fast now and still about 3 hours apart and 7 hours at night. We haven't been feeding rice cereal lately because she's been gagging on it but she's been sleeping good so it's been great!
Monday Kolt worked at the BHC on a day shift. The kids and I went with Grandpa and Grandma Lindley down to Cache Valley for Memorial Day. We picked up Great Grandma Lindley and went to the various cemeteries and learned about our heritage. We enjoyed visiting with Corey's family and several of my dad's cousins. I love this tradition. It's great to remember those who came before us and also those we have lost. I haven't been down for a few years and finally made it back. I have sure missed being part of the tradition. We took out annual picture in front of Julie Ann, Daniel, and Trevor's grave with our family. We ended with lunch at Wade and Deanna's home in Smithfield. Deanna and Kolay were friends the whole time. Thank you!! Kason loved the yard and the bunnies! We also got to listen to Sherm's adventures on her trip and her neat family history story. We got home pretty early in the evening. When Kolt got home, we loaded up to go visit Brylees grave in Ucon. We finished the day with a visit with Grandpa and Grandma Staker. We sure love them and it was great to visit and have them meet Kolay!
Tuesday we did some early morning errand runs and shopping before we picked up saydie. When we picked her up, we went to the bike shop to have our bikes repaired. The chain on one of the bikes had broke when we were riding it a couple nights before. Kolt worked with his horses in the day. In the evening we went swimming. We drove to the pool with both kids to meet my dad and then he would bring them home while we swam. As we passed the Post Register, Kolt and I witnessed a man seizure and come across both lanes of traffic right in front of us. Kolt rushed to help the man out of his vehicle, and I called 911. We sure hope the man is alright and glad we were inspired to do what we needed to.
On Wednesday morning, Natalie came over and we finished a bunch do crafts. We finished the flag pallets we've been working on and made posters and shirts for Tyler's welcome home. In the afternoon, Kolt worked with his horses. He now has 4 horses: Clyde, Wally, Bonnie and Red. He has been working with Clyde and Bonnie every chance he gets. He is putting some good rides on Clyde and Bonnie is starting her groundwork. Over the weekend, we took care of some animals for a friend in swan valley, so Wednesday evening we went out to get instruction.
Kolt worked a day shift on Thursday. We had saydie with us for the afternoon again. Natalie came over and played. The kids had a great time playing all together. I spent most of the day packing for the weekend and planning meals. We left for swan valley that night after Kolt got off work.
Friday was a great day! Kason loved doing chores with Kolt in the morning. He kept coming in to tell me, "babies hungry!" Which meant the calves were eating. He loved watching them! We stayed outside most of day except that I did some work on my computer with Kolay during the day. In the evening, elder Lindley came home! Kason kept saying "Ty Ty home!" Through the day. We left in time to get home and let Kolt work a horse and then go to the airport. I took lots of pictures! It was so cool to see everyone's faces when he walked down the stairs. Kason stayed with Grandma Lindley while the older cousins hugged him. When Grandma said go give Ty Ty a hug, he ran straight over to Ky Ky and hugged him. When he finally understood Ty Ty, he ran right over to Tyler and then froze and was too scared. He finally gave Tyler a hug with a little help from his Mom. Kolay and Kolt also welcomed him home with a hug. It was a neat day! We all went home and had ice cream and visited with Tyler before returning to Swan Valley.
On Saturday morning, we did chores and then headed to Twin Falls for Ropes Idaho Junior Rodeo. We got there in time to watch his bareback and chute dogging events. He sure tried hard! He had really improved each time he does it. We celebrated Shauna's birthday with cheesecake and we also brought her a gift. We got her a board for her new house. On the way out, we walked through Vicker's and then had lunch at Subway with the family. The ride home was long! It was raining and windy for much of the way. We stopped by our house for some hamburgers and then drove back to Swan Valley to check on the animals.
Sunday morning was relaxing! We did chores and then packed up. We had a great time taking care of the animals. We came in to go to church. We had a ward conference. It was a nice meeting, other than we were out with kids most of the meeting it felt like. Kason was fussy during nursery as grandma wasn't there. I spent the third hour in with him. He is playing much better in nursery, just likes a familiar face nearby. In the evening, we visited with Kristi and Bryant who came over and then went on a big bike ride. We tried the 8.5 mile bike ride to train for the triathlon. It was a little longer than I thought but we did it in 34 minutes! Kason and Kolay went on a walk with Grandpa while we rode bikes.
