Too Many Tests----ISU DAY----Rope's Program

Kason’s Updates: Kason turned 14-weeks old this week! He is just growing and growing—I know it because my arms getting tired holding him! He is starting to not be quite so content to lie down and not move.  He is sleeping a lot less and spending more time awake.  He found his feet this week and has been quite entertained with holding onto them!   He is learning to look around this week.  We tested out the walker, and he loves standing up and playing with his toys, especially the spinning mirror!  He is starting to lift his head when you lay him down in a chair or on the floor.  He likes to be held up and likes standing in your lap.  He has been kicking a head cold this week, but between Tylenol and my favorite doTerra oils in the humidifier, he is fighting it off like a champ.  I think he will be very excited to be done with volleyball this week (and I will be too!)

Things have been pretty routine for the Piquet family this week although this week has seemed busier than most.  I had my first exam in my main Accounting class on Thursday.  It went better than expected.  It never fails that I wish I would’ve started studying a few days earlier.  Kolt had a couple exams as well.  He scored a 93% on his Organic Chemistry exam, which is quite impressive as it is said to be a tough course.  We are hoping his continues to do well in his classes this semester.  Kolt spends almost every day of the week at the college in class or studying on campus.  It is nice to have him study there and then be able to come home and help with Kason.   Friday evening my mom watched Kason while I buckled down and worked on my online class.  We are doing a Stock Market Simulation which is actually quite fun and addicting! I started off ranking 3^rd in the class, but have gotten worse as I have invested in mutual funds and ETFs.  Needless to say, I think I will wait to master my skills a little better before I invest any real money in the stock market!

Work has been a little busy this week.  I printed checks, but also had a meeting on Wednesday afternoon.  I am on a committee to reduce expenses.  There is another committed to increase revenue in the next year.   Many of the employees have been there for several years while I am only going on year 2.  I feel like I learn more about the processes at the Post Register every day, and it fun to have things connect for me.

We had a great week of volleyball playing at Century and then at home versus Pocatello on Thursday.  We beat both teams, but played excellent against Pocatello on Thursday.  The girls have really kicked it in gear the past week, especially when they realized that we only have one more week of the season.  It is fun to see the girls want to improve and play their best.  It is definitely my pay-off day! Kason got to ride the bus with me to Century.  He did great and was good company!

We had a great weekend with Great-Grandma Lindley in town.  Saturday morning Kolt and I missed our early temple session because Kason wasn’t feeling so hot through the night.  He woke up feeling a ton better.  Kolt, Kason and I rode a school-sponsored bus from the ISU-IF campus down to the Holt Arena for the football game.  They provided a lunch for us, and then we went to the tailgate party before the game.  Kolt got his first football and piggy bank!  He enjoyed being out in the stroller.  We met Kristi, Bryant, Kamrie and Kylen at the football game.  ISU beat Northwest Colorado University  pretty handily; it was a long game, but it was fun to finally watch them play.  After the football game, we walked down to the volleyball game against Sacramento State. I have sure missed watching Kylee Searle play volleyball!  My parents met the 7 of us at the volleyball game, and then drove us home.  We had a great day with family and loved spending the day watching sports!

Sunday morning we went out to Rope’s Primary Program.  Kolt enjoyed getting back to the ward he grew up in! Tanner Brinkerhoff just got back from his mission, and he was there as well.  Rope did a great job singing and saying his part.  The Primary did a great job with the music and sang some beautiful arrangements.  We then came back to our ward and listened to two new families in the ward, the Storer’s and the Scott’s. 

My Favorite Weekend of the Year

I can’t believe it is already October. Time is sure flying by in 2013.  Kason hit his 3-month mark.  I am trying to take his picture with a teddy bear and a basketball every month, so we can compare how he is growing.  Wow! This boy is sure growing. It is fun to remember when he was just a little baby! Kason is now almost 17 pounds.  He is getting good core strength and can hold his head up without much bobbling.  He has quite the jibber-jabber going on.  We had a great time this weekend helping him learn to talk. It was too cute to see him talk and talk until I got to work today, and he was the office distraction! He is quite the smiler and loving playing with his toys.  He can really get the toys on his bouncer going by kicking his legs like crazy! He has a really cute little “whine” for a cry that turns to a good cry if it goes for very long.  If I’m attentive, I can go a whole day without Kason even crying which is pretty amazing.  His “whine” is pretty cute though, and I sometimes just love to listen to it.  

We have had a pretty normal week of school, shadowing, work, and volleyball.  Kolt shadowed a PA at our family doctor.  He had a good visit with him and enjoyed learning about being a PA.  The volleyball team played HIlcrest and Madison this week, beating Hillcrest and losing to Madison.  Kristi asked Kolt to line judge for the Hillcrest-Bonneville Varsity Match. He was pretty nervous, but did a great job.  I started practicing with the Varsity after my practice for a half hour.  The theme of the week was, “I Ain’t As Good As I Once Was”! I have missed playing quite a bit and am trying to balance Kason and 2 practices every day.  You sure don’t get the chance to play high-level volleyball every day. 

Other highlights of the week included…watching Rope play at Stinger on Monday night (tough loss), getting a 94% on my Quality Management class, a yummy Prime Rib Sunday dinner at Kolt’s parents, canning applesauce on Saturday morning, printing checks at work on Friday, going to my cousin Nicole Theurer’s baby shower in Logan and Kolt going to the Priesthood session with my dad in Logan, and of course, General Conference. 

 I love listening to General Conference.  I feel that General Conference is the most important meetings we have all year.  Kolt and I always try to make a special effort to be to each session and to be attentive, although being in school often makes it hard to stay focused and not worry about homework.  One of the many things I love about Kolt is his desire to find spiritual experiences for our family.  He always dresses up for Conference on Sunday, and although I often drag my feet, I find myself feeling more reverent, feeling the importance of the Sabbath, and being more receptive to inspirations.  I always feel so many impressions and try to write them down and continue to feel the desire to follow the promptings I feel during the sessions.  I enjoyed listening to conference for the first time being a parent.  Many different things stood out to me. My new goals are to be better at family prayer and scripture study, better at rereading the Conference talks, parenting in love, and finding ways to serve though around us.

How grateful I am for the gospel of Jesus Christ and my forever family.

1-Year Anniversary--IF Volleyball Tournament--Baby Shower

First, Kason’s updates—Kason is now 11-weeks old, almost 3 months! He is still growing like a weed. He has slept 8 hours for the past 3 nights!! I hope it continues because it has been GREAT! He is quite interactive now.  He loves the teddy bears that rotate on the mobile on his bassinet.  Last night he was squealing and swatting at them for almost 30 minutes.  Today I caught him with the toys on his bouncer in his hand! He is starting to hit quite a few of the 3 month milestones.  He smiles at anyone who will talk to him.  He is very content to sit and watch and usually falls asleep by himself. He spits up quite a bit after feedings.  He is also growing a little bump on one of his nipples which the doctor says is very normal! Leave it to his mother to worry about those little things!

The Piquet family has had another great week! It was filled with class, physician shadowing, work, and volleyball.  Kolt and I both had 2 exams this week, which we are anxiously awaiting results on.  Kolt is almost finished shadowing Dr. Cannon and is going to start shadowing Tyson Parker, a Physician’s Assistant, at Family First Medical Center.  Kolt and I also got the flu shot this week, desperately trying to avoid the flu this year!

We had a busy volleyball week, playing Rigby on Wednesday, having team pictures on Thursday, and then a tournament on Friday and Saturday.  On Wednesday, Shauna and Kolt’s mom came and picked up Kason and took him to Kolt’s cousin, Jessica Beck’s baby shower.  We beat Rigby in 3 and then I hurried over to the party.  I found out that Jessica’s husband, Tavann, has a sister who I worked with at the Post Register before she had her baby.  It was good to see Breylan Boyce! It was a cute baby shower, and Jessica looked fantastic! After the shower, Angela, Shauna, Paisley, Kason and I went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner.  I can’t even remember if I’ve ever been there before, but it was delicious! I love visiting with Angela and Shauna, and I was grateful Kason was a good baby for the evening.

Friday and Saturday my team played in the Idaho Falls Freshman Invitational.  We played really well on Friday, but lost our crossover early Saturday morning against Shelley, so we were in the Silver bracket for the afternoon.  We won the bracket easily and placed 5^th overall.  It was a long volleyball day, but I was glad to have Kason and Kolt with me.  I’m so grateful for good moms to help with Kason during the games as well.  I really enjoy coaching with Kolt.  He always has good insights and helps me see things we need to improve on.  He is very level-headed and positive, but competitive, so we are a good team!

After we finished, we went over to Hillcrest to watch Bonneville varsity play in the championship.  I was so excited to see Makayla. She hadn’t seen Kason since he was born! I love Makayla so much and love being so close to her.  We talk almost every day and never miss a beat! After the game, Kolt and I went to JC Penny to use a coupon to get me some new jeans! We also got Kason a jacket for the cooler weather!  We ended the evening with dinner at Red Robin for our anniversary and stopped by Wal-Mart for some groceries before fainlly getting home.

Sunday morning we went to Kylen’s baby blessing in Pocatello.  It was a beautiful blessing, and we enjoyed seeing family.  Kristi and Bryant served delicious crepes for brunch! Kylen is such a cute little boy, and we were happy to be there on his blessing day.  We hurried back to Iona for our ward block.  I played the organ and Makayla watched Kason during church! I’m so glad her parents are in our ward, so I am sure to see them when they are here for the weekend, although it never seems like long enough!  Kolt taught the Sunday School lesson about inspiring others to follow the commandments.  We had a combined Relief Society/Priesthood meeting which my dad taught.  I enjoyed listening to how we can be “quick to observe” in many ways especially as we follow the pattern of General Conference.

Sunday evening Kolt and I got a new DVD player (to replace ours that broke a few weeks ago) and some chocolate cream puffs (Kolt’s favorite).  We also brought out a layer of our wedding cake and that we froze for our 1 year anniversary.  It definitely tasted better on our wedding day, but I had to try it! I can’t believe we have been married for a year! We have had so many adventures over this past year.  Our love has grown so much over the past year.  I can’t wait to celebrate many more anniversaries to come.  Kolt and I got creative and came up with the 12 Months of Marriage to highlight the big events from the first year of our marriage.
